12th Hole
Augusta National is one of the most exclusive golf clubs in all the world. Founded by Bobby Jones in 1933 it has been the site of the Masters Tournament since 1934.
Some interesting facts:
Opens: 5/01 Closes: 10/31
Par 72 - 6925 yards
Greens Grass Type: Bent Grass
Fairways Grass Type: Bermuda Grass
Each hole is named after a tree or shrub
300 members - membership is strictly by invitation, no application. Annual dues - less than $10,000 a year. The Masters broadcast on CBS earns the club millions of dollars each year.
Each member receives a green jacket with the club's logo on the left breast. The winner of the Masters Tournament receives a green jacket and is invited back to play every year in the tournament. The green jacket is returned after a year.
Members of Augusta National include generations of Southern society folks and corporate titans who are discouraged from using the club too often.
Currently there are no female members, although female caddies are permitted.
The trademark white jumpsuits worn by the caddies year-round are not a PGA tour mandate.
Can you play Augusta National? Well it helps to be filthy rich or know a member and then kiss ass heavily.
There are few other ways. Dwight Eisenhower, an avid golfer, war General, and President was invited but I don't think Bill Clinton was ever asked. Bill Gates of Microsoft fame had to wait a few years simply because he stated that he wanted to become a member.
Seriously, Augusta National is exclusive and snobbish. Asking won't get you much of anything.
